Good day and welcome to the University of North Texas Podcast series, Authentic Assessment to Improve Student Learning and Performance. Today is June 18 and we will be discussing “Authentic Assessment – What it is and how it is applied to STEM Curriculum”. The discussion is moderated by Kathy Belcher, UNT - STEM Project Specialist with Ralph Szydlik, the Department Head of Educational Technology at Flower Mound High School. Collect, Select, Reflect: 10 Steps for Building Your Portfolio
Portfolios are a systematic, meaningful and purposeful collection of your work that showcases the process of learning and/or the products of learning over a period of time. It also serves as a valuable tool for reflection and assessment of your learning and performance improvement. Portfolios may span one or more courses. The contents may be composed of paper or stored electronically, or a combination of the two. This job aid uses STEM courses as an example in building your portfolio.

Electronic portfolios help students capture artifacts, build their resumés, and prepare students to begin their career pathway from secondary to postsecondary education and/or the workplace with confidence. Many of the new TEKS within the 16 career clusters require that students are expected to maintain and update a portfolio. This professional development module uses examples from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) career cluster; however, the process for portfolio development is applicable across all of the career clusters.
