2016 New CTE Teacher Conference

Applications for the New CTE Teacher Conference are due September 23, 2016.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has begun accepting applications for attendance at the statewide professional development conference sponsored by the Texas Education Agency for new career and technical education (CTE) teachers. The conference will be held October 3-5, 2016 in Austin, Texas.

Participants will learn proven strategies for career and technical education, meet Texas Education Agency staff, ask questions, and share ideas with other CTE educators from across the state. Conference sessions will include breakouts for 16 Career Clusters breakouts, CTE TEKS, lesson planning, working with special populations, and strategies for teaching today’s students. New CTE teachers also will gain valuable resources and connections by networking with representatives from Texas CTE professional associations and Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs).

The $75 conference fee includes the following:

  • Two-day conference admission
  • All conference materials
  • Working lunch on Tuesday, October 4th
  • Opportunity to earn up to 14 continuing professional education (CPE) credits

2016-2017 CTE Leadership Academy

Applications for the 2016-2017 CTE Leadership Academy are due September 12, 2016.

The Texas Education Agency is sponsoring the CTE Leadership Academy for persons whose responsibilities include implementation and oversight of career and technical education programs at the campus and/or district level:

  • Career and technical education directors
  • Career and technical education coordinators
  • Principals and assistant principals
  • Superintendents and assistant superintendents
  • Other school administrators

This nine-month professional development program begins with a two-day symposium in Austin on October 5-7, 2016. Participants will gain a strong foundation for understanding and implementing CTE administrative policies and procedures.

During the school year, mentors will guide the participants through action-learning projects and help them apply what they are learning to their current situation. The CTE Leadership Academy will conclude in June 2017 with a symposium in Austin where participants share promising practices and lessons learned, as well as gain additional information on how to be effective CTE leaders.

Participation Fee - $250

Includes instructional programming and materials for all three phases, plus:

  • Two nights lodging at Fall 2016 CTE Leadership Symposium hotel
  • One night lodging at Summer 2017 CTE Leadership Symposium hotel
  • Lunches during CTE Fall 2016 and Summer 2017 Leadership Symposiums

Applications for the 2016-2017 Professional School Counselor Academy are due September 12th, 2016.

The Texas Education Agency is sponsoring the Professional School Counselor Academy for persons whose responsibilities include the implementation or oversight of college and career readiness at the campus and/or district level:

  • College and career readiness coordinators
  • School counselors
  • Counselor educators
  • Special education and special population counselors
